Editorial & medical review policy

How we research, write and clinically review every article — and how we keep our information accurate, sourced and current.

RadiologyScan publishes plain-English information about medical imaging for Australian patients. Our goal is simple: clear, accurate answers you can trust before a scan.

Who writes our content

Articles are written and edited by the RadiologyScan editorial team. We are not a substitute for your own doctor — we explain how imaging works so you can have better-informed conversations with your care team.

Medical review

Every article is clinically reviewed by a practising radiologist (FRANZCR) before publishing, and re-checked when we make material updates. The reviewing radiologist's date of review is shown at the top of each article.

Our reviewers are not named individually. Clinicians frequently prefer not to be publicly identified on consumer health sites — including for professional and AHPRA advertising reasons — and we respect that. The review is real: no article carries a "medically reviewed" label unless a qualified radiologist has actually reviewed it.

How we source facts

We anchor every figure to an authoritative source, and we keep our key numbers in a single, version-controlled facts library so they stay consistent across the whole site. Our primary sources are:

  • ARPANSA — the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (radiation doses and safety).
  • RANZCR / InsideRadiology — patient information written by radiologists.
  • Australian Government Department of Health — Medicare, the MBS and the Medical Costs Finder (for cost information).
  • Peer-reviewed medical literature via PubMed, cited with DOIs.

Accuracy, updates & corrections

Health information dates. We review articles on a rolling basis and update them as guidance changes; the "last reviewed" date reflects the most recent clinical review. If you believe something is inaccurate or out of date, please contact us — we take corrections seriously.

Medical disclaimer. RadiologyScan provides general information only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Always seek the advice of your doctor or a qualified health provider.
